Project-North MVP Demo
A downloadable game for Windows
Description:
In Project North, you are a submarine captain on a quest to uncover the North Pole’s mystery. Played in first-person and set in the late 19th century, you pilot an especially modified submarine below the jagged, ice-spiked surface and through narrow corridors. Starting with mission planning (resource allocation) and concluding in the execution (resource usage). During your Expedition you must monitor/manage and repair your systems, set your course and search spots where you can surface. Your curiosity-driven expeditions are journaled using notes and sketches in a logbook that allows you to secure future funding after a successful mission, allowing you to expand your capabilities, and bringing you ever closer to the North Pole’s secret.

Goal: (for MVP!)
Get as close to the north pole as you can. You will most likely need many subsequent expeditions to do so. As long as you return alive your mission is a "success".
How to play:
Press pause (esc) and select the "?" tab to view this in game
1. Plan your expedition
Adjust how much of which "resources" you wanna take with you, every resource has weight and your submarine has a maximum weight that is allowed.
Checkpoints => whenever you surface that point and your route to it will be saved as a checkpoint. When planing a followup mission you can now start at any of these surfacing points as well.
Tips:
1. Oxygen can be refilled if you find a spot where the ice is thin enough to stick your snorkel through (look out for moving particles of your sonar). Finding spots to do so can be though especially the closer you get to the north pole, so better be sure and take enough with you.
2. Soda lime is used to remove CO2 out of the air. A couple of bottles are enough for that. But if you intend to run the diesel engine while diving, lots more are required.
2. Explore the frozen depths
Familiarize your self with all the hand wheels, levers, and buttons. The labels and their neighboring instruments should guide you on what their purpose is. To control your submarine use the engine order telegraph, just bellow it is a little hand wheel you can use to dive and rise. The big wheel is for the bow thrusters, which allow you to turn on the spot. All controls stay and do not return to 0 unless you do so manually. This allows you to set for example a slow forward speed and go tend to other matters.
Systems:
Most systems have ether digital or analog gauges in combination with a yellow warning light and a red alarm light. Nothing will silently kill you (besides the environment), sounds and lights will notify you if something needs your attention.
Engine:
Fuel (Diesel)
You choose how much to take with you in the Planing phase. So keep an eye on the gauge when running the engine, so you don't suddenly have no way to recharge your batteries
Oil
Oil is used while running the engine if not refilled you risk damaging the engine.
Engine Oxygen
If you want to run the engine while diving it will consume lots of oxygen.
Engine CO2
If you want to run the engine while diving it will produce lots of oxygen, if not stored in soda lime bottles it will spill in to the submarine's air and eventually suffocate you...
Drive Electricity (High Voltage)
This is what you actually use to drive your submarine.
When running the engine this will be recharged.
Air:
Oxygen
Make sure the levels stay withing the ideal range. Oxygen can be to high as well!
CO2
You breath so CO2 is generated. Use soda lime bottles to rid the air of it.
Others:
Temperature (not yet included)
Your surrounded by very cold water, we need to heat air. But when driving and running the diesel engine heat will be generated, so some cooling might also be required some times.
Board Electricity (Low Voltage)
This is used for the sonar, your lights and the board electronics. If suddenly in the dark, you do have a flashlight (f)
Hull integrity / Air pressure (Not yet included)
When crashing leaks can appear, which will flood the submarine. When this happens drop everything and ether close off the area using the various doors, making it unavailable for the rest of the expedition, or go patch the leaks (if possible).
Tips:
1. Run your engine if possible while snorkeling. Air can be pulled from the outside and CO2 can be dumped and does therefore not need to be stored in soda lime bottles.
3. Journaling (Not yet included)
Note and sketch your findings while exploring and publish them as a book IF you manage to return alive. This will give you some extra money to spend on upgrades for your submarine to make it easier to get closer to the north pole and its mystery.
